Migration and Return to Mapuche Lands in Southern Chile, 1970–2022

چکیده

This article addresses the emerging issue of migration from cities to countryside, a trend which increased and became more evident during COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, this study follows population growth Mapuche communities in southern Chile. It proposes that pattern represents medium-term pendular historical phenomenon; decades after initial exodus Chile Argentina 1960s 1970s, families individuals have decided return live permanently on community lands. utilized official resources interviews with public officials, experts, members, leaders. highlights very important phenomenon, as generates changes landscape, well posing challenges for rural world. In some cases, recent has generated substantial occupation migrants, resulting change urban activities. other returned but maintained jobs nearby cities, or retired.
